Zinal Photo Tour Page (scroll down for pictures) Zinal (5,477 ft.) is located in the canton of Valais at the southern end of the Val d’Anniviers (Anniviers Valley), a north/south running valley that flows into the Rhone Valley. At the north end of the Val d’Anniviers is Sierre, a beautiful town about 15 miles from Sion. At the south end of the valley is the village of Zinal, the last village before the Zinal Glacier. The hiking village of Zinal is nestled at the foot of the Weisshorn (4,506 meters/14,779 feet), the fourth highest peak in the Alps. This charming village provides access to over 200 miles of hiking trails and is perfectly situated for exploring other delightful villages of the Val d’Anniviers: Grimentz, St. Jean, Vissoie and St. Luc. The hiking in this corner of Switzerland is simply fantastic, most trails are above tree line with spectacular views of snow capped peaks and flowing glaciers as well as scenic views of lush valleys and high alps. You will hike beneath the famous peaks of the Imperial Crown, Zinalrothorn, Bishorn, Obergablehorn, Dent Blanche and Weisshorn, all 4,000 meter peaks. The language of Val d’Anniviers is French as is the cuisine. Dining here is a culinary delight. The chef at our enchanting inn prepares meals with local fresh ingredients of the season; and if you have comments regarding the meals he is easily approachable since he also owns the inn. Complimenting the fresh dishes is a wonderful selection of wines of the region. Valais is the premier wine growing canton in Switzerland, 49 types of vine are grown there. Simply put the Val d’Anniviers and the village of Zinal is an ideal place for superb hiking and fine dinning. |
