Making arrangements
for special dietary requirements, meeting you at the Zurich or
Munich
airport upon your arrival, and helping with travel arrangements
before and after your time with us are a few of the extra benefits
you receive when hiking with Alpine Adventure Trails Tours.
Our unique program provides hiking options for all abilities. Each
day you have a choice of a moderate hike or a more strenuous hike.
The group gathers for a brief meeting each evening after dinner when
two hikes are presented for the following day. Guide One will
describe in detail an easy to moderate hike that is limited in
elevation gain and has a distance of six to nine miles. Those who
choose Guide One will usually ride above the tree line by cable car
or cog rail train and hike a moderate trail. Most hikes with Guide
One are of variable length - designed so you can elect to do a
portion of the hike or the entire hike –thanks to the extensive
Swiss and Austrian transportation network of trains and cable cars.
Hikes with Guide One will have little uphill - usually less than
1,200 vertical feet. Some hikes with Guide One have more elevation
gain, but the “guide’s pace” we use makes going uphill much easier
than you would expect. If you walk three to four miles per day,
three days a week for several weeks before the trip, you should find
your hikes with Guide One thoroughly enjoyable. Guide Two will
provide details about a more challenging hike - seven to twelve
miles in length, with elevation gains of approximately 2,500 to
3,500 feet. Hikes with Guide Two take you to areas
that can only be reached by foot or helicopter. In all the years
I’ve led hikers in the Alps, no guest has ever said there was not
enough hiking. The most common comment we receive is that their trip
was the best hiking vacation they have ever had.
Lunch for both groups is usually in small inns or mountain huts and,
when possible, Groups One and Two will eat together. After
completing the day’s hike you return to the comforts of the inn for
an evening of fine dining and a restful night sleeping in your
private room with a private bath. The following day you awake to
enjoy a bountiful buffet breakfast before starting the day’s new
hike.
All details of your trip are personally handled by an owner/guide
from the time you register for your adventure until you are escorted
to the Zurich or Munich airport for the flight home. We provide
personal attention to details behind the scene so you can focus on
enjoying the beauty of the Alps.
We also understand
individual exploration is very much a part of the Alps experience
and stand ready to provide information and assistance before and
during your trip. All two village tours have two free days (without
organized hikes) to allow time to explore on your own (one village
tours have a single free day.) Switzerland and Austria have
wonderful public transportation systems. Trains, buses, cable cars,
and boats make it easy and convenient to travel and see areas we do
not visit as a group. On all Switzerland trips each guest receives a
Swiss Rail Pass that allows you unlimited travel on public
transportation. On our Austrian trips guests receive local travel
cards that cover travel on local trains, buses and cable cars.
Come join us this summer and help celebrate our 32nd season of
organizing and leading small group tours of hikers, walkers and
outdoor enthusiasts through the back-trails of the Alps. Our
welcoming family - owned company takes pride in offering tours of
the highest quality and value made possible by years of experience
specializing exclusively in the Alps —The Hiker’s Paradise.
An owner/guide (Travis Harris, Shannon Harris or Jim Mathis) leads
each tour, supported by a
highly qualified assistant guide. If you have questions please call
me directly at (888) 478-4004. We hope to see you in The Alps.
Happy Hiking,
